Another month in crypto has passed, and while the past week has arguably been one of the most devastating for the ecosystem since the Mt. Gox hack in 2014, let’s remember why we are here in the first place: to buidl an open-sourced web3 network of decentralized apps, marketplaces & communities. As our frens at Gitcoin put it:

On the district0x front, our developers have been hard at work on all districts (scroll down for the full developer update), while our editorial team has published a new Spotlight Article about Social Tokens, explaining the role of StreamTide’s $TIDE token, and receiving some well-deserved attention in Roll’s latest Social Token Times:

TL;DR of what we will cover this month:

  • New Spotlight Article: Social Tokens
  • StreamTide: Latest Updates
  • New DappStream Episodes
  • Developer Updates

If you missed the Sept-Oct update, check it out here.

Don’t forget, we’re still hiring! We continue growing our bullpen of developers to build out the tools of the future! If you have any experience developing smart contracts or web3 dApps, please email talent@district0x.io with a resume and an overview of your experience. We’d love to have you on board!

Now, let’s dive right in!

Spotlighting the most important developments in web3

Spotlight: Social Tokens

In our latest Spotlight article, we dive deeper into the concept of Social Tokens, and how this new asset class is “revolutionizing the entertainment industry by eliminating the persistent hold of centralized middlemen, enabling creators to form stronger, direct bonds with their fans”.

Focusing on StreamTide’s $TIDE token, as well as the social token platform Roll, we explain what the true value of “creator coins” is, how they differentiate themselves from membership NFTs, and how they could soon become “a mainstay for how influencers allocate, broadcast, and directly derive value from the communities they tirelessly cultivate”.

Finally, we take a look at what the future might hold for this promising innovation and the creator economy as a whole. While there is no doubt that social tokens will profoundly change the way creators interact with their fans, this technology is also still in its infancy stage, requiring a lot more development before it can get adopted on a larger scale.

“For social tokens to reach the amount of attention that DeFi, NFTs, or DAOs have gotten over the past year, it will require a lot more critical infrastructure to be built.”

StreamTide Updates

StreamTide is continuously making progress since the first version of our landing page went live. Thanks to Daniel’s most recent updates, users will now be able to upload files via IPFS once their project is created. Furthermore, testing on the Goerli testnet has proven to be 100% successful!

Some of the next steps include allowing supporters to access files uploaded by creators after donating to their project, as well as verifying donations and allowing downloads. We’re now preparing for a 2nd test run with the community!

We will be giving anyone who wants to test the platform some testnet tokens to play with — all we will need is your time! Reach out to us on Discord.

As mentioned above, StreamTide also got some more attention this month, as Roll featured $TIDE and our latest Spotlight Article on Roll’s Social Token Times #34.

We continue to be on the lookout for musicians and creatives that want to join the movement. If you are an artist and have an interest in StreamTide, make sure to reach out to Brady to register for pre-launch!

Latest DappStream Episodes

As the DappStream focuses on weekly crypto news and updates in the ecosystem, last week’s episode was dedicated to the recent events surrounding the collapse of FTX and the exchange’s CEO, Sam Bankman Fried. In this episode, Your favorite host Brady McKenna presents a positive take on the events, making a case for decentralization and crypto being stronger than ever.

In case you took a break from Crypto Twitter and have no idea what we’re talking about, make sure you watch the episode here:

The DappStream

The DappStream: FTX is ded. Crypto is stronger than ever.

Last month, our community voted to take the DappStream on a new multistream venture. The first broadcasted multistream episode was viewable live on several platforms, including Twitch, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, and more.

In case you missed the historic episode, you can now watch it on our Youtube Channel:

If you haven’t already, we also recommend you check out the clips from the DappStream’s special episode with Doge NFT members DogeGenerals, Tridog & Cryptosinclair from PleasrDAO, discussing the fractionalized doge, the future of work, and the Meme Economy.

Monthly Dev Updates

Meme Factory

Meme Factory’s new version on Polygon continues to run smoothly. This month we mainly focused on investigating and fixing isolated issues, as well as taking a closer look at integrating Push Protocol, potentially enabling users to receive push notifications, triggering alerts to remind them to reveal votes, collect rewards, and list their memes after they make it into the registry. In summary, the integration seems straightforward and we have started to work on its implementation.

All of Meme Factory’s smart contracts are now working and we’ve started testing the bridges. Apart from a few tweaks in the UI, such as exporting and importing votes, we’re getting closer to deploying on the QA server.

Thanks to these updates, we will soon be able to host some larger meme contests on the platform! Stay tuned on MemeFactory0x.

Ethlance

We’re continuing to focus on Ethlance’s front-end smart contract integrations. Our developers have made significant progress on migrating libraries to the monorepo, testing the CI & releasing scripts. Moving forward, the monorepo will use CircleCI’s new dynamic configuration and workflow features. CircleCI will dynamically generate YAML configurations, including steps to test and release each updated library.

Now that all libraries have been imported to the monorepo, and transient dependencies have been set up, we will focus on running final tests of affected libraries on CircleCI, while continuing to build and deploy individual libraries and bundles to clojars.

Name Bazaar

The development of Name Bazaar has also made considerable progress thanks to Krysztof. A new version of our smart contracts has been released and deployment to production has been initiated. The first tests have been returning positive results, including features like adding auction offers and selling without auctions.

As Name Bazaar seems to now be working smoothly from a technical point of view, we will move forward with the Wyvern Protocol integration to significantly reduce gas prices for users, before releasing the district’s new version for a first test run with the community!
